White Crowns

The most relaxing way to take care of your smile.

Porcelain White Crowns

The type of crown that has been used the most has a base of metal as a foundation and porcelain that is placed over it. There are inherent cosmetic issues with this, such as grey/dull looking teeth and black lines around the gums. In our office we place all porcelain crowns (with no metal base) and the benefit is to create the most natural smile possible without sacrificing the strength and durability. In actuality they are more functional. Because of their versatility, porcelain crowns can be used effectively to solve a variety of problems. If your tooth is broken or if is not strong enough to withstand normal wear and tear or has become extremely worn down, a porcelain crown would be an ideal treatment for you.

Porcelain crowns are also excellent for supporting teeth that have had large fillings needing replacement and dental implants. They can be used esthetically to lighten your teeth, narrow gaps, and reduce crowding. Because of their success and versatility, they have long been popular among patients and dentists alike.

Our office specializes in crowns made entirely of porcelain for several reasons:

1. We have found that they offer the most precise match for your natural tooth color.

2. They are preferable to other materials for patients who are allergic to metals found in porcelain fused to metal crowns. The combination of porcelain fused to metal employs a metal framework to resist the pressure created when chewing food. But the advances in technology now make the use of pure porcelain crowns much more desirable. They have enough strength to be used even on the molars that are subjected to the greatest stress of all on your teeth and durable as well. But best of all, their ability to match your teeth perfectly makes them impossible to detect as part of a natural, beautiful smile.

3.
The Cerec3D machine can fabricate these items in the same day while you sleep, allowing you to avoid hearing the drill, the suction, and best of all, avoiding the uncomfortable temporary crowns (that inevitably fall off) and that second appointment!

4. Zirconia crowns. These crowns are used in certain situations when we wish to have a more esthetic solution for the posterior teeth in a child's mouth when we would normally place a stainless steel crown. Please note that while we can place zirconia crowns for your child, in the front or rear of their mouth, these crowns require extra preparation of the tooth structure to allow passive placement of the crown. With this extra preparation comes additional tooth removal, and the need for pulp therapy of the tooth. The additional preparation and pulp therapy both come at an increased cost to the patient, and a high likelihood that the dental insurance company will not cover the costs due to the fact that this is being completed for esthetic purposes. Please discuss the possibility of Zirconia crowns with the doctors at your consultation appointment, if this sounds like something that you might be interested in pursuing for your child.
